Telling Stories: The presentation
The main
point of this activity is to get the knowledge about how to transmit our
productions, works, presentation and so on, in a proper way, how to take
the most important things, catch the attention of the audience and make them
interested about the topic… For this we have to do a good presentation,
but what is it?
A good
presentation is a useful tool to explain a topic, however it is not
easy to dot well, a good presentation must be attractive, interesting,
striking, etc. It is very important the use of the correct color, size,
pictures, et,. and it must be very visual, simple, innovative, creative and of
course adapted according to the audience. For this we have to use our
imagination or have original ideas to create something.
Furthermore,
we have to be allowed by the author when using contents like pictures, music...
so for this source there is a free license called Creative Commons. (CC) is a
non-profit organization that allows us to use and to share both creativity and
knowledge, which the author choose the use that people can do with it depending
on authors had chosen before. There are different kinds of licenses that
determine what kind of use you can make.
Slideshow
Preparing a good presentation is not a easy task. To make thing easy there has to be a lot of ellaboration. We have chosen recycling, to show or students the way to be creative. But the
first though that came into my mind was, how to make a dull content such as
recycling, attractive to my future 6-year-old students?
Catching their attention with fantastic images, was our goal, because we wanted to motivate them, with a topic like recycling, we wanted them to feel
the teacher passion.
As their teacher, I wanted to interact with them with great and catchy images, for that reason, I went on to
the second position, letting images talk on my behalf, because I love them to
be the stars.
Finally, music should be compulsory in primary
education, to inspire our children, that was the reason for me to play a
stretch of music on the slide share presentation.
Roles
That
week, our facilitator was Maria Moreno, and she toke into account the process
of the activity and its parts tried to divide the tasks the best way possible. First
we had to investigate about Creative commons licenses and Tips for doing a good
presentation and summarize them two in a 30 slide show presentation.
Well
she thought that the best way to divide the activity was the following:
- 1- Cristian had to explain what means to use Creative Commons License resource and how to do that in max. 10 slides.
- 2- Rocio had to upload this 10 slide show presentation to slideshare (with a CC license) using the tag #Soyer1314.
- 3- Fernando had to summarize the 20 basic tips for developing a good presentation in max. 20 slides.
- 4- Raquel had to upload this 20 slide show presentation to slideshare (with a CC license) using the tag #Soyer1314.
- 5- Feli had to prepare the oral presentation about recycling, searching the images with Creative Commons license, and preparing the presentation on slideshare, including the references.
When
the search of information was finished Cristian and Fernando were in charge of
making two presentations. One about Creative commons licence, and the second
one about 20 basic tips for doing a good presentation.
About
the start presentation, we chose recycle as the topic for our presentation,
because we thought that was a very important topic to teach and that we have to
take care of our world, we live on it and if we don´t conserve it, it will
disappear.
On
Monday that week, Feli presented our topic with a power point; she did it
fantastically, explaining everything with coherence, so we think that everyone could
easy understand what recycle is and its importance.
That week, we worked a lot, because that was the
week when we modified our blog in order to make it easier to understand,
organizing the different post in the correct order, and including some
interesting news and videos. Cristian did it in his majority.
That
week was also when we understood how we had to work properly if we wanted to
feel comfortable with our roles and blog, because the weeks before we were a
little bit lost with all our work but since that week we can say that we have
improved a lot or way to work.

What have we learned?
In this task we had investigate and learn about free
resources, Creative commons licences and how to make good presentations with
slides.
With it he had learn a lot of things, for example: now we know that for making
a good presentation there are some basic guidelines that we must follow.
Some tips were more specific about how to make a good
slide presentation, like choosing an adequate font stile, size and colour. But
others were also for orals expositions in general, like “don’t turn your back
to the audience”, “talk slowly” or “illustrate your discourse with stories or
personal examples”. We think that this activity was great for us as future
teachers because one of our main goals is to catch children attention and make
them understand what we are saying.
But that was not just learning how to use APA Style,
how to use Creative commons licences, how to make a good presentation or
learning how to use “slideshare”. It was about the knowledge we can learn from
it, and how can we apply that in our future job as teachers.
With the activity of 20 tips for a good presentation
we have learn how to transmit information
in a striking and effective way for catch people attention and make them
feel interest about what are we saying. And, like Mercedes Ruiz said, if we
make your students feel emotions when you are explaining something they will
lean much better. So we think that competence is very important for our profession
as teachers.
With the activity of making a presentation about
Creative commons licences and free resources we have learn the importance of share knowledge.
We have seen
that there are lots of free resources that we can use because their authors let
us with a Creative Commons licence. But the best thing in our opinion is that
some of them let us use and modify their resources and we think that this is
amazing.
For example: If we share an
idea with someone, that person can improve that idea, and if he shares it again
another person can probably improve that again and finally we all can use that
final project. So we have learnt that if
we share knowledge we all get benefits.
Self evaluation
I have put 8 points at my partners because all
of us have done our work successfully. We divided it and without any problem we
all did it and handed over it at time. We haven’t had any problem and I am so
proud of my partners, because at least, we finished understanding each other.
So, why don’t put them 10 points? Because, I am sure we could do our work
better (if we wouldn’t have had other thing to do…). Always it can improve and
do it better, but now I am so happy and enthusiastic with our work. We have
improved and it is the important thing: our advance.
Finally, I would like to point out the
Cristian´s work as facilitator. He has developed his work perfectly, doing
easier our work and he has always been worried about the group work, not only
individually. Without any doubts he has been the best facilitator.
